My Review of NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil

NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil 2024
NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil 2024

The original NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils were a really big deal when they launched back in the day. I remember getting very excited when they launched 10 new shades in 2017!

The new NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil is an instant win for me because I already loved the Velvet Mattes and this formula is even more long lasting and I love the colour matched packaging!

This formula employs a technology called the Power Pigment Technology that uses a blend of pure pigments in emollient oils and colour-locking ingredients. It is also now free from parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, sulfates SLS & SLES, triclocarban, triclosan, and contains less than one percent synthetic fragrance.

I believe that the original Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are being discontinued, so any shades that are available now will eventually sell out or become unavailable.

I love the shade line up in this debut collection of NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil. I’m so happy to see Dolce Vita in there as it is one of my favourite NARS lip shades, and I am obsessed with it in the Afterglow Lip Balm format – see swatches here. I am pretty sure that this shade will sell out in the new Powermatte fomula so make sure you grab it while you still can. Other shades that seem to be selling fast are American Woman and Walkyrie.

I know that there are some favourite shades in the old Velvet Mattes that didn’t make the cut, but I’d imagine that there will be new shades added to this collection in the future.

These pencils are great because they are sharpenable, and the pencil format means you can line and define, and fill with colour all in one. The texture is beautifully smooth and creamy, and the finish is a soft matte that stays feeling flexible on the lips yet lasts really well.
